In March 2025, the Committee agreed to hold evidence sessions focussed on the bus and rail sectors and the challenges public transport users, staff and operators face.
This builds on earlier scrutiny of the bus and (especially) rail sectors in this session (see “completed work” for links to this work).
The Committee will continue to keep a watching brief over these sectors. It is likely to make use of the evidence heard during these two sessions in April 2025 in future scrutiny, including of the draft Climate Change Plan expected later in 2025, and in making recommendations on the 2026-27 Scottish budget.
The Committee will take evidence from representatives of rail and bus passengers and staff.
The Committee will take evidence from representatives of bus operators and then from representatives of rail operators, owners, and rail freight.
The Committee has sent and received the following correspondence during the inquiry:
Letter from National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), 16 April 2025
Letter from Transport Focus, 15 April 2025
