New Macmillan Cancer Therapy Service Opens with Support from Bellshill鈥檚 Kirby Group Engineering

  • Submitted by: Stephanie Callaghan, Uddingston and Bellshill, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 15 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17177

That the Parliament commends Bellshill's Kirby Group Engineering for what it sees as its remarkable generosity in providing the vital funds required to open a new Macmillan Cancer Support service and for the thoughtful provision of care bags for those affected by cancer, alongside a generous £1,000 donation; understands that this new service offers free treatments, including massage, facials, and Reiki, to anyone affected by cancer, including their families and carers, and operates at Coatbridge Library every second Thursday from 10.00 am until noon; notes that this marks Macmillan’s third complementary therapy service in Lanarkshire, building upon the valued existing services in Bellshill and East Kilbride libraries; believes that this initiative represents a powerful opportunity to reach and support many more individuals in need, complementing the existing Information and Support Hub, which already provides vital emotional support and guidance; considers this new service to be an invaluable addition to the local community, recognising the profound benefits of therapeutic care in enhancing both physical and emotional wellbeing; expresses its heartfelt thanks to all those involved, particularly Kirby Group Engineering, Macmillan Cancer Support and those running the support services, and wishes this service, and all future endeavours of Macmillan Cancer Support, continued success as it provides compassionate and essential care to people affected by cancer and their families across Lanarkshire and beyond.
