Sportscotland Funding for New Multi-use Courts in Victoria Park, Glasgow

  • Submitted by: Dr Sandesh Gulhane, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 07 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17080

That the Parliament welcomes the award of £29,114 from sportscotland’s National Lottery-funded Sport Facilities Fund to Glasgow Life for the creation of two new multi-use courts in Victoria Park; understands that the Sport Facilities Fund supports capital projects that create or improve places where people take part in sport and physical activity, with priority being given to projects that widen access to participation or allow people to progress further within their chosen sport locally by removing barriers; further understands that the project will extend on the existing tarmac in the west end park and that the courts will be used for a mix of free play, developmental work by Basketball Scotland and Netball Scotland, outdoor matches for netball clubs and by Movement Park for wheeled sport and parkour; notes that the project is driven by the Friends of Victoria Park community group and is part of a wider transformation of the park and work to create a sports hub, and hopes that with the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow in 2026, the facilities will provide an open access space for those inspired by the games to get involved in playing basketball and netball in their local community.
