Shettleston Boxing Club Awarded Sportscotland Sport Facilities Funding

  • Submitted by: Dr Sandesh Gulhane, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 07 April 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17078

That the Parliament congratulates Shettleston Boxing Club on being awarded £68,346 from sportscotland’s National Lottery-funded Sport Facilities Fund; understands that the Sport Facilities Fund supports capital projects that create or improve places where people take part in sport and physical activity, with priority given to projects that widen access to participation or allow people to progress further within their chosen sport locally by removing barriers; recognises that the funds will be used to build an extension to the club, which will create a changing room and showers and also more space for increased boxing opportunities and community physical activity classes; understands that the expansion will allow the club to offer more diverse sessions for the local community, with a focus on young people and women and girls, the lack of showers and appropriate changing area having been a barrier in the past; commends the club, which operates with nominal fees from participants, and the club members, who, it understands, have carried out some work on the extension, and wishes all at the club all the best for the future.
