That the Parliament expresses its profound sadness at the passing, on 8 February 2025, of Gyalo Thondup, who is the brother of the Nobel Peace Laureate, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama; acknowledges Mr Thondup's lifelong dedication to the restoration of freedom for the Tibetan people and nation, demonstrated through his esteemed service within the Tibetan Government in Exile, including his instrumental role in advancing UN resolutions on Tibet during the 1960s and his leadership as chairman of the Kashag (Tibetan Cabinet) from 1991 to 1993; commends his critical contribution in facilitating the Dalai Lama's escape to India in 1959, amidst reported efforts by Chinese occupation forces to detain him and their reported massacre of tens of thousands of Tibetans who resisted and protested the occupation, and conveys its deepest condolences to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan community in Scotland and worldwide.
