Aldi Initiative to Tackle Period Poverty

  • Submitted by: Dr Sandesh Gulhane, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 31 March 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-16976

That the Parliament commends the supermarket chain, Aldi, for its new initiative to tackle period poverty; understands that Aldi is now providing free access to pads and tampons in all of its in-store toilets for both staff and customers; recognises that the initiative is available to all with no need for a code or proof of purchase; understands that the initiative is part of a wider collaboration between Aldi and Bloody Good Period, a leading charity focused on menstrual equity; recognises that, through this partnership, Aldi is donating over one million period products to support the charity’s work in addressing period poverty; commends Aldi for its efforts to make a meaningful difference to those who face the challenge of accessing essential period products, and hopes that other supermarket chains will follow suit to provide the same for the staff and customers of their stores.
