Holyrood’s Finance and Public Administration Committee has launched a new parliamentary inquiry into effective decision-making by the Scottish Government.
It will be the first time a Holyrood committee has considered the overall processes and key skills that are used by the Scottish civil service, and others within the Scottish Government administration, to make decisions.
The Committee鈥檚 inquiry will examine what constitutes effective decision-making and how this is supported within and across the Scottish Government.
Finance & Public Administration Committee Convener Kenneth Gibson said:
鈥淧ublic Administration is a key part of our Committee鈥檚 remit and is best described as how the functions and systems of the Scottish Government work.
鈥淥ur Committee has agreed to undertake an inquiry to better understand the current policy decision-making processes used by the Scottish Government.
鈥淚t will be the first time a Holyrood committee has looked at the inner workings of the government in this way.
鈥淲e鈥檒l seek to identify the skills and key principles necessary to support an effective government decision-making process.鈥
The Committee’s main focus will be on decision-making within the ‘core’ Scottish Government - its Directorates, Ministers and Special Advisers.
The Committee will not be considering specific decisions by the Scottish Government or individual cases. Nor will the Committee specifically be considering matters currently the subject of scrutiny by other parliamentary Committees.
